UC Riverside medical student Jonathan Ogbogu, class of 2028, has received a $10,000 scholarship from the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC), a Washington, DC-based organization that leads initiatives to close gaps in cardiovascular outcomes through advocacy, education, research, and mentorship.

Ogbogu received the ABC/Johnson & Johnson MedTech Scholarship for Medical Students, which was launched in 2022 through a partnership between ABC and Johnson & Johnson MedTech and is given to students committed to cardiology and health equity.

"This scholarship is an investment in my mission to improve heart health outcomes across Inland Southern California," said Ogbogu, who grew up in Moreno Valley, attended John W. North High School, and received his undergraduate degree from UC Riverside before entering medical school.

"These students are the promise of tomorrow," said Anthony Fletcher, MD, president of ABC. "They represent healers and innovators who will carry our mission forward—to eliminate cardiovascular disparities and to extend equitable, culturally responsive, compassionate care across communities."

The ABC celebrated its 50th year by presenting a total of $225,000 to 25 medical students across the country, with the announcement coming during its Golden Celebration Weekend on October 9, 2025.
