UCR School of Medicine alumnus Kishan Patel, MD will join the cast of the 47th season of Survivor. The season will premiere on September 18 on CBS with streaming on Paramount.

Patel, who graduated from the SOM in 2022, is currently an emergency medicine resident at UC San Francisco. The 28-year-old will compete against 17 other participants in Fiji for a $1 million grand prize.

"Part of being an ER doctor is strategizing and prioritizing and triaging and just having that chaos at all times," Patel said in a CBS Entertainment interview. "You never know what's coming at you, but you still have to be in control of it, you have to know the strategy of what to do next--that's exactly what Survivor is."

The Emmy Award-winning reality show, which follows a new group of "castaways" each season as they overcome various challenges and form alliances, has been on television since 2000.
