UC Riverside School of Medicine Professor of Biomedical Sciences Scott Pegan, PhD, has been named associate dean for preclerkship medical education beginning Sept. 2, 2024

In his new role, Pegan will work closely with Sherif Hassan, MD, the executive associate dean for pre-clerkship medical education to enhance the pre-clerkship medical education program.

Pegan joined the School of Medicine in 2021 as a professor of biomedical sciences and has served as the director for the biomedical sciences and biochemistry thread in the medical education curriculum. He was recognized for teaching excellence in 2024. He has also served as the vice chair of the Division of Biomedical Sciences since 2023.

Pegan is a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve and serves as an instructor and science and technology advisor tor the US Military Academy at West Point. He has served in leadership positions at the University of Georgia and the University of Denver. He has a notable research portfolio, having secured nearly $10 million in grants and authored over 50 scientific publications.
