The University of California, Riverside held its first standalone Give Day on April 6-7, 2023, with the School of Medicine attracting 72 donors and earning a total of $12,819. The total includes an additional $2,500 in Beyond Brilliant matching funds in recognition of the school's third place finish in the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees Top Three Challenge.
SOM's Give Day proceeds supported the Mission Award Fund, which provides scholarships to medical students who commit to practicing as primary care physicians in Inland Southern California.
The campaign ran for one day, nine hours, and fifty-four minutes in recognition of the school's founding in 1954 and attracted support from SOM staff, faculty, medical, and biomedical sciences students.
Overall, the UCR campus raised $462,546 through 1,700 gifts, surpassing the $388,000 raised in the last major campus fundraiser, Giving Tuesday, in November 2021.
Kudos to Andrea Ortiz, SOM development coordinator, who led the fundraising effort, as well as her colleagues: Executive Director of Development Edna Yohannes, Senior Director of Development Jordan Snedcof, and student worker Marian Abawi.
